About Project

Is "Home" something that can be taken with you?
Is it a building, a body, a piece of land or is it a collection of emotions and memories that can be projected on any place?

In this project we want to touch on questions and issues in society today, which concern values on having a home and the presumed need to be "belonging" somewhere.

ДOM/Home is a project in which Benno Voorham, a Swedish based choreographer, will create a dance performance with a group of 6 dancers from Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. In this project they will work with a group of teenagers from a children's home (Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus) to hear their stories, memories, feelings, dreams and reflections on what home means for them. These stories will then be used and integrated in the piece that they will create together.

It is a project in which different groups of teenagers from children's homes will be given the opportunity to participate in both the creation and performing of a dance/theatre piece.

The project ДOM/HOME is for Lava-Dansproduktion an important step to take: to work with children that most of their lives live in a marginalised and under-privileged situation in which they have few opportunities to influence their circumstances directly. The immediate outcome of the project will be a performance that will stimulate participants, audience and other targetgroups to think differently about the notion of home, belonging, inclusivenes and the concept of nationality in a world of moving borders. A group of children will be performing with the dancers. The first part of the project will take place in Moldova, where we will work with a group of children from a home in Chisinau. In a period of five weeks we will create a performance with the dancers and children that will tour Moldova. This piece will later function as the frame for a Ukranian and Belarusian edition of the piece. In each of the other countries we will work with a new group of children, hearing their stories and allowing the piece to change to include their stories. The piece will tour each country.

In 2013 the Museum of Architecture will organise a symposium around the didactical methods that have developed during the project.

The initiative to develope the project was taken by Lava-Dansproduktion and the Swedish Institute.

The project is a collaboration between ADDM(Moldova), the Swedish Museum of Architecture and Lava-Dansproduktion.
The performance with the dancers and children will tour Moldova from 9 september - 19 september 2012.
In Ukraine and Belarus we will work with a new group of children, hearing their stories and allowing the piece to change to include their stories.
